January 1, 2010 - A Beginning
It was the best of times…it was the worst of times….wait…no, that has been taken.
Jacob Marley was dead to begin with….wait…no, no, no….that one has been used too…
Hi, I’m Don Pagel. I was born on the 12th of never…December, 1957. The year of the Edsel and the year of the ‘57 Chevy. It was the year that the Soviets launched Sputnik 1 and President Eisenhower confronted segregation in public schools in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was 3 days after the birth of Donny Osmond and the 17th birthday of Dionne Warwick.
The conservative, post WWII values of the 50’s closed and introduced the 60’s which were just weird. I was oblivious to what was going on except for an occasional obscenity-laden outburst from my father when the news came on about hippies or some other issue that he was highly opinionated on.
So now I’m 52 years old and way too often I open my mouth and my father’s words come out. Let’s see what these last 52 years have been like. I’m a blessed and lucky man with much to be grateful for…little to write about…but much to be grateful for.
